Kimi Werner of Team Beuchat Featured on Cover of Hana Hou Magazine
(click to enlarge)LAKE WORTH, FL – July 9, 2010 – SpearoTek, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Beuchat International in the U.S., is proud to announce that Kimi Werner, 2008 Women’s National Spearfishing Champion and member of Team Beuchat, was featured in the April/May Hana Hou magazine. Werner, wearing a Beuchat Mundial Camo wetsuit and holding a Beuchat Marlin Carbone speargun, graced the cover of the inflight magazine of Hawaiian Airlines, giving the sport of spearfishing a somewhat atypical mainstream stage. The five-page story, titled A League of Her Own, chronicles Werner’s life and successes as “one of the Islands—and country’s—best” spearfishers.
“This is a big deal,“ says Richard Meder, president of SpearoTek. “It is a major breakthrough to have spearfishing featured in something as mainstream as an in-flight magazine. The fact that the spearfisher is a woman is even more surprising to many people, but those of us who know Kimi are not surprised at all.“ While spearfishing has consistently increased in popularity in the United States over the past five years, it is still considered by many to be an unconventional sport dominated by men. “Articles like this are changing that perception,“ says Meder.
“Many people ask me about the challenges I face being a woman in a male dominated sport, but to tell you the truth I rarely look at it that way,“ says Werner. “My partners and competitors all treat me as an equal and I love it. It makes me stronger and it helps me to strive harder. The spearfishing community has embraced me from the very beginning and I’ve always felt right at home here, not just as a female spearfisher, but simply as a spearfisher. It really excites me when I find out that my achievements inspired other women to try the sport, but I hope to be a role model to both boys and girls. I just think of myself as a diver and want to be the best diver I can.“

Introducing Beuchat’s cutting edge freediving electronic depth gauge, the MUNDIAL
LAKE WORTH, FL – June 4, 2010 – SpearoTek, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Beuchat International in the U.S., announced today that Beuchat continues to reinforce its innovative position in freediving and spearfishing with the introduction of their cutting edge freediving electronic depth gauge, the MUNDIAL
Dedicated to Freediving
The MUNDIAL freediving electronic depth gauge has been meticulously designed specifically for freedivers. Detailed information displays, multiple alarm options, and independent timer options are just a few of the many innovative functions which will meet the needs of the most demanding freedivers and spearfishers.
Detailed Dive Information
During the dive, the MUNDIAL displays the current depth, elapsed dive time and alarm notifications. With the push of a button the diver can access a countdown timer, temperature and the current time. Upon return to the surface, the diver is presented with the maximum depth, total dive time, dive number for the day, and the current surface interval timer. Again, with the push of a button, the diver can access additional timers, current temperature, current time, dive log, dive history, and more.
Informative Dive History and Detailed Log
In Log mode, the Beuchat MUNDIAL offers detailed dive reports. While scanning through up to 99 previous dives, the diver can review maximum depth, pre-dive surface interval, elapsed dive time, dive number for the day, time of day the dive began, and minimum recorded dive temperature. In addition, replayable dive profiles with one second precision for each dive can be easily viewed.
In History mode, total dive time for the history of the electronic depth gauge (up to 1000 hrs), total number of dives (up to 9999 dives), all-time maximum depth, all-time maximum dive time, and averages for depth, time, and number of dives per day are all available.
Safety and Training Benefits with Multiple Alarms
The Beuchat MUNDIAL freediving electronic depth gauge offers increased safety and excellent training benefits through the use of its multiple, user-configurable alarms. Elapsed dive timer alarm, repeating depth interval alarm, and descending depth alarm (up to three separate depths can be set), are all essential in pushing the diver’s limits through freedive training. The surface recovery timer with alarm is especially beneficial for spearfishers, as it assists the diver in reaching safe recovery intervals while maintaining focus on the catch below and on the surrounding environment.
Maximum Performance in an Intuitive and Modern Design
Packed with performance, the Beuchat MUNDIAL is ideally suited for all types of freediving and spearfishing, whether recreational or competitive. With its high visibility display, easily accessible buttons (even when wearing gloves), and elegant design, not only is it the ultimate freedive electronic depth gauge, but it also serves as an excellent every day watch with dual time zones.

Kimi Werner of Team Beuchat Holds Eight Hawai’i State Spearfishing Records
LAKE WORTH, FL – March 24, 2010 – SpearoTek, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Beuchat International in the U.S., announced today that Kimi Werner, 2008 Women’s National Spearfishing Champion and member of Team Beuchat, now holds seven Hawai’i state spearfishing records. All of Werner’s fish were captured within the “spirit” of spearfishing guidelines insofar as each fish was a wild, unrestricted, uninjured fish speared unassisted with a muscle-powered device while breath-hold diving during daylight hours. This accomplishment further secures Werner as one of the truly elite women athletes in the sport.
Werner’s record-breaking fish include a 21.8-pound ahi (yellowfin), a 3.49-pound white saddle goatfish (kumu), a 3.5-pound ala’ihi (squirrelfish), a 2.3-pound double-barred goatfish (munu), an 8.1-pound mu (porgy), an 11.6-pound redlip parrotfish (whiptail uhu), a 3.16 pound weke nono, and an 8.2-pound yellow spot (ulua island jack). Beuchat spearguns such as the Marlin Carbone 1150, Mundial 900, and Marlin Pacific 1150 have dominated Werner’s records as the weapon of choice. In addition to these records, Werner took first place at the International Pacific Cup in April 2008 and first place in the mixed division of the 2008 USA National Championships of Spearfishing in Rhode Island. She was also named Rookie of the Year in 2008.
“For me diving is all about enjoying the beauty of the ocean, the hunt, and the resulting meal,” says Werner, “shooting records is just a fun bonus. Sometimes I submit my catches, sometimes I don’t. I think it’s great to have a system where we can have a friendly competition and show our big catches, but at the end of the day, record or no record, it’s all about the dive.” Werner, who was signed to Team Beuchat last May, grew up on Maui and started fishing and diving at the age of four. Werner’s place on Team Beuchat places her with the likes of legendary spear fishermen such as three Time World Champion Pedro Carbonell, the anchor athlete of Team Beuchat.

Kimi Werner of Team Beuchat Places Near Top of the 2009 Spearfishing Championships
LAKE WORTH, FL – September 15, 2009 – SpearoTek, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Beuchat International in the U.S., announced today that Team Beuchat member Kimi Werner placed 2nd in mixed competition with partner Wayde Hayashi and 3rd in the women’s individual competition at the 2009 USA Spearfishing Championships at Leo Carrillo State Beach, Malibu California. Werner also received the All American Honors of being the number one ranked woman to go to the Worlds. The 2009 USA Spearfishing Championships took place on Thursday, August 6, 2009.
Werner flew to California early to put in three weeks of scouting before the Championships. “It was hard and painful at times to get used to the cold water and big waves that came in this year,” says Werner, who started scouting with a 5mm Beuchat Camo wetsuit before upgrading to a 7mm Beuchat Elaskin suit. With the warmer suit, Werner really could enjoy the California Coast. “Diving in the beautiful kelp forests and learning all the new species of fish and other marine life was an everyday adventure.”
Werner, who grew up on Maui, says, “People sometimes wonder why we do this—why spend so much money and time to travel to a competition with no cash prize attached. I used to think that perhaps it was for pride, or for proving to oneself that goals can be accomplished. Now I realize it’s so much more than that. It’s for the sake of sportsmanship, teamwork, exploration, and perhaps above all, connecting with great people who share the same enthusiasm and love towards all oceans.”
The 2009 Championships were Werner’s second United States National Championships. Werner, along with partner Andy Tamasese, won the mixed division of the 2008 USA National Championships of Spearfishing in Rhode Island. Werner also won the titles of Women’s National Champion and Rookie of the Year in 2008.

Beuchat Signs Top U.S. Skin Diver Erick Salado
LAKE WORTH, FL – July 3, 2009 – SpearoTek, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Beuchat International in the U.S., announced today that Dr. Erick Salado, one of the top five skin divers in the United States, was signed to Team Beuchat. France-based Beuchat International is the worldwide market leader in the fields of scuba diving and spearfishing, and SpearoTek, Inc., through its partnership with Beuchat, makes Beuchat products available to dealers throughout the United States.
Salado, born in Cuba, is an orthopedic surgeon who immigrated to the U.S. in 1983. Having built his own spear shooter at age nine, Salado steadily gained notoriety in spearfishing competitions in his native Cuba. After a hiatus away from competitions while he went through orthopedic surgery training and the accreditation process to get his Florida medical license, Salado returned to competition in 2002. Since that time, Salado has competed in local, regional and statewide tournaments, as well as five U.S. National championships. He is currently involved in an intense comprehensive training to compete at the 2009 U.S. National Spearfishing Championship, the most challenging competition in the United States.
Salado placed fourth as both a team and an individual at the United States National Skin Diving Spearfishing Championship (U.S.O.A.) in 2008. He was a member of the first place team at the 2008 Spearboard Open, and he placed first as an individual competitor at the 2008 Florida State Championship S.F.D.C. (South Florida Diving Council). In 2009 he won the Spearfishing & Diving Winter Tournament and was part of the first place team. He also participated as Team USA’s doctor for the 2008 World Spearfishing Championship in Isla de Margarita, Venezuela.
“I use Beuchat spearguns because they represent quality and dependability,” says Salado. “Everyone in the diving community is aware of the superb quality of Beuchat diving and spearfishing equipment. I’ve used it for over 30 years, and it has helped me achieve many victories. I look forward to many more as part of Team Beuchat!”

SpearoTek, Inc. Announces Sole U.S. Distributorship of Industry-Leading Beuchat International
LAKE WORTH, FL —December 26, 2008— Today SpearoTek, Inc. announced a groundbreaking partnership with France-based spearfishing equipment market leader Beuchat International. The partnership enables dealers across the country to immediately have access to hundreds of products previously unavailable to U.S. markets. SpearoTek, Inc. is a leading U.S. wholesaler of worldwide spearfishing and freediving gear, while Beuchat has, for more than 60 years, revolutionized the sport. The partnership brings Beuchat’s experience directly to dealers throughout the United States and will go a long way toward bringing the sport into the twenty-first century for American divers.
“We are thrilled to bring Beuchat spearfishing equipment to U.S. dealers,“ said Richard Meder, president of SpearoTek. “In particular, we are looking forward to introducing the Marlin Carbone Elite, the speargun used by Pedro Carbonell, triple World Champion, who has not stopped boasting about it. In addition, the Mundial Camo wetsuit—an open-cell neoprene, titanium suit—will be a new top-of-the-line camouflage wetsuit that spearos will be very excited about.“
The sport of spearfishing has steadily gained popularity in the U.S., and demand for the best gear is now higher than ever. Until now, however, many of the innovations and technologies readily available in other countries have remained unavailable to U.S. enthusiasts. SpearoTek has positioned itself to address this gap, and the partnership with Beuchat is a prime example of how SpearoTek is revolutionizing the sport in the U.S.
“At SpearoTek, we spend our nights scouring the equipment available outside of the U.S. that fills in the gaps of what is available here,“ said Ulises Suarez, vice president of SpearoTek. “Once we find the very best gear, we spend our days testing it and not by trying it out in the community pool.“ SpearoTek uses a network of spearos around the country to extensively test every piece of gear before bringing it to market. When unable to find a product they are seeking to bring to market, SpearoTek, Inc. is also set up to manufacture it in-house.
SpearoTek, Inc. is a leading wholesale distribution company for the most innovative spearfishing and freediving equipment from around the world. The Company offers U.S. dealers gear previously unavailable in the U.S. by negotiating partnerships with leading manufacturers world-wide, as well as manufacturing its own equipment. Through extensive research, development and testing, SpearoTek, Inc. is first when it comes to bringing cutting-edge spearfishing technology to U.S. markets.
Founded in the 1930s, Beuchat International is the worldwide market leader in the fields of scuba diving and spearfishing. Distributed around the world into 80 countries, Beuchat has been involved in the development of all aspects of underwater activities including the invention of both the isothermal diving suit and the “Jet Fin,“ a product used by military and commercial divers around the world.
